Registered nurses are known as RNs and have a variety of duties and responsibilities within the medical field. RNs primarily provide treatment and education to patients. They are also responsible for assisting in various testing procedures, operation of medical machinery, and the administration of medication and certain treatments. RNs are knowledgeable in the area of health and may provide education on various diseases or conditions.

What Are the Educational Requirements to Become a Registered Nurse?

There are several educational options to becoming a registered nurse. You can earn a bachelor's of science degree in nursing, an associate degree in nursing, or attend a nursing school and earn a diploma. Bachelor's degree programs usually last four years, while associate's degree programs more often take two years. Nursing diplomas generally take three years to obtain. Many registered nurses choose to further their career by obtaining a master's degree in nursing, which requires a bachelor's degree and two additional years of college study.
